Lycopersicon lycopersicum The first ripe, juicy tomato of summer is a delicious milestone of the season for gardeners. Each year we test and evaluate more than 250 tomato varieties to bring you the most flavorful, best performing selections, for every desired use. An array of nutrients and antioxidants including the especially potent lycopene, found in its highest concentration in tomatoes, supports healthy eyesight, cardiovascular health, cancer-fighting capacity, and more.

Days to maturity are calculated from date of transplant.

Determinate tomatoes: grow compactly, sprawling laterally, usually do not require staking, and fruit ripens over a short period of time
Indeterminate tomatoes: grow on long vines, generally require pruning to 1 or 2 leaders that need to be trellised
• Fertile, well drained, raised beds covered with plastic mulch promote early growth and better yields
• Tomatoes are high feeders and will benefit from regular fertilization with Age Old Bloom
• To prevent blossom end rot use a high calcuim amendment
• Overwatering can cause fruit to crack

Direct Sowing
• Not recommended

• Sow seeds in trays 6-8 weeks before anticipated transplant date; up-pot into 3-4 inch pots when the first set of true leaves appears
• Strong light and cooler temperatures (60-70°F) prevent plants from getting leggy
• Fertilize with Age Old Grow every 10-14 days
• When transplanting work in compost, 1/2 cup of TSC's Complete fertilizer, and handful of bone meal
• Determinates can be spaced 18-24 inches apart, indeterminates 24-36 inches apart
• Tomatoes can be buried up to the top 2 sets of leaves
• Use Kozy-Coats or Victorian Bell Cloches to protect young plants

Common insects: Flea beetles and tomato hornworms
Insect control: Pyrethrin or row cover for flea beetles, and Monterey B.t. for tomato hornworms
Common diseases: Early and late blight
Disease prevention: A strict 3-4 year rotation, remove vines at the end of the year, fungicide

• Harvest when fully ripe, do not refrigerate for best flavor
• Green fruit should be ripened in a cool, dark area; make sure fruit are not touching

Best cherry tomato I have grown

This is the best cherry tomato I have ever grown. Thin skin, juicy and intensely rich tomato flavor. This will be one of my mainstay tomatoes.

Every year we plant cherry tomatoes, and this year we decided to do a taste test of our own. My husband's favorite tomato is Sun Sugar (which he likes better than SunGold), so we planted one Sun Sugar and one Orange Paruche. When the crops came in, they both came in about the same time. One day, about a month after they had started producing, I picked 200 off each plant (there were still lots more still ripe and ripening on the vine) and took them to a BBQ with more than twenty families. I labeled each bowl then put out a chart and asked people to vote for which one they preferred. Though both tomatoes got lots of votes, and everyone said it was difficult to choose because they were both really good but clearly different flavors, in the end, Orange Paruche was the clear winner. Comments included more real tomato flavor as compared to the SunSugar's sweet and delicious tangy flavor, thinner skin, and in general were just a little bit larger. I made Capreses appetizers with Orange Paruche, fresh mozzarella, homegrown basil, and balsamic vinegar glaze, and half of the tray of 48 were gone in just five minutes...and the rest sooner after. I live in Zone 8 and we didn't have the best tomato weather this year...usually the orange cherry tomatoes start ripening by late June, and it was early August this year before we had a decent crop, but they are now both producing like crazy. I grew them on a tomato ladder and still had to put up additional stakes for all the suckers and side branches that didn't get pruned back. Each plant is currently about five feet wide and as least five feet tall (they would be taller if I had added the third tier on the the tomato ladder, I'm sure. Would definitely grow again.

I live in the North East where the growing season is only 90-days. Lots of rain, and not much heat. These tomatoes performed splendidly, and I had a huge harvest. In fact, I had so many that I decided to can them. Well, having never canned cherry tomatoes before, there was a learning curve. I realized that I must skin them first (pain in the neck), and slightly crushed them while in the jar before canning. I removed the excess juice and added a bit of sea salt and fresh lemon juice. The result was spectacular! It resembled apricot preserves in appearance, the the flavor was almost better than fresh! I opened a jar and added some melted butter and served on roast chicken topped with fresh cracked pepper. My guests lost their minds, stating that the combo was like eating sunshine!

Everyone forgot all about the Sun Golds when Orange paruche ripened. Best cherry tomato of the 2015 season!! Very productive and deliciously sweet and flavorful.

posted under the plant first. purchased as a plant. came in great shape and went on to produce like crazy,plant is 4' high and 4' wide. loads of tomatoes, had to add extra supports. sweet and tasty, thinner skin than sun gold so thats a big plus. have septoria leaf spot but this plant held up great, picked off lower leaves and kept on producing.

This is a pricy little packet of seeds, but once you taste the tomatoes from the plant, you'll realize it was money well spent. Sweet, delicious, complex flavor, with lots and lots of fruit per plant. The hype about this tomato isn't just hype. It's the truth. Delicious. Productive. Downright awesome. And to top all that off, the tomatoes are a beautiful bright orange. Get some.

The first year I planted these tomatoes, I couldn't get enough of them. When I'd go in the garden to pick vegetables, I'd stand at this tomato plant and just eat the fruit as it came off the vine. Even though it was a bad tomato year because of too much rain, The Paruche grew like a weed. There was a huge crop from just one plant, and every time I gave some away, everyone loved them. This year I'll have at least 4 plants in my garden, and have promised plants to at least 8 people. A great choice for your garden
