So far so good

Heard they were hard to germinate and grow... turns out a ton germinated and they are growing gangbusters. Started indoors at ~70F room temp and under grow lights in ~60 degree garage. Will see how they transplant soon.

Great Germination

I planted the entire packet because I had heard that it doesn't germinate well. I haven't counted because there are so many but I think nearly every seed germinated. I broadcast the seed in a seeding flat with a plastic cover on a heating mat. One week later they all started peaking up. They are up potted and ready to go out next week if the weather holds.

Would not germinate

So excited to try this; however, seeds did not germinate either time I tried to start them.

So sorry to hear that! Celery seed can be challenging to germinate. It germinates best with a soil temp of 70-75 degrees and can take 2 or 3 weeks to germ. As always, our products are backed by our full guarantee. We want you, our customers, to be 100% satisfied with the seed, plants and supplies that you purchase from us. If anything you buy from Territorial proves to be unsatisfactory, we will either replace the item or refund the purchase price, whichever you prefer. Good flavor and not difficult to grow!

This was my first time growing celery. I was a bit discouraged because i had read that celery is extremely difficult to grow. i did not find that to be true. this celery grew well and tasted delicious, although i should have let it grow a while longer as i think i harvested it too early because the ribs were smallish. gave it lots of water. i was living in coastal northern ca at the time.

Apium graveolens var. dulce Long known as an unsurpassable diet food, celery stalks contain 94% water and only 15 calories in 2 medium stalks. Surprisingly, celery contains about a dozen antioxidants as well as about 37% daily value of vitamin K in 1 cup. Enjoy it in 3 forms: its leaf, the stalks, and the swollen rootstock we know as celeriac.

Days to maturity are calculated from date of transplanting.

Culture
• Celery and celeriac are water-loving plants and do best in fertile, well-drained soil, with a pH of 6.0-7.0
• Apply 1 cup of TSC's Complete fertilizer per 5 row feet, and 1 inch of compost
• For consistent growth, fertilize regularly with Age Old Grow, and maintain even soil moisture
• Mulch around plants with clean straw to preserve soil moisture
• Weather fluctuations and temperatures below 55°F can cause celery to bolt

Direct Sowing
• Not recommended

Transplanting
• Sow indoors 10-12 weeks before anticipated transplant date
• Avoid planting too early before weather has stabilized

Insects & Diseases
• Common insects: Carrot fly
• Insect control: Row covers at planting
• Disease prevention: Crop rotation, adequate water supply, and insect control

Harvest & Storage
• Pick individual stalks as needed
• Store at 36°F and 95% relative humidity
