Plastic & Paper Mulches

Silver Mulch

Silver Mulch

ZRC796P

Drives bugs away!
This amazing plastic mulch repels hungry, disease-carrying insects. The shimmering silver, high-density polyethylene plastic causes insects such as thrips, aphids, and white flies to avoid the area near your plants. Experiments have shown that Silver Mulch is as effective as regular pesticide applications for protecting tomatoes from spotted wilt virus. Good for all types of plants. We use it regularly on all brassica crops. Best defense mustard plants have against flea beetles. A must in the organic garden.

I like to work my fields in my bare feet - this stuff gets really hot in the sun, I had to wear garden shoes to step on it for picking. We have deer that think our garden is their smorgasbord, their hooves went through this mulch without any issue which lead to a place where weeds could sprind up - BUT we did not notice as many bug problems with our plants than we do with out it ... Now whether this was due to simply using some sort of barrier or the fact that it was the silver mulch I couldn't tell you. Hint - lay the mulch down, mark where you want the plants to go, then sear through the plastic with a torch - you will get rounder/smoother holes which won't tear quite as easily. The mulch lasted only one year.
