Cucurbita pepo 80 days. We saw Neon glowing orange in our pumpkin trials far earlier than any other variety. Ripening extra early to accelerate the pumpkin harvest, you can start picking up to a month earlier than many other pumpkins. Just right for pies and jack-o'-lanterns, the 7–8 pound, uniform globes measure about 10 inches wide and 8 ½ inches tall. Semi-bush plants. Approximately 5 seeds per gram.

Great growers!

I had to prune these plants back about a month ago as the vines were doing a hostile takeover of my entire garden. I planted 4 seeds and 3 of the plants have beautiful medium - sized pumpkins on them patiently waiting to be carved for Halloween. The 4th plant has a large green watermelon sized squash on it... and I'm not quite certain what it is. I'll likely carve that one too for variety LOL. These were fun to watch grow, and I'll do them again next year.

2021 was a pumpkin success!

These did great for me in the Cascade Foothills. The 5 plants that escaped slugs and other wildlife resulted in 16 pumpkins! Took a bit to get started but once they got going in July, (seeds started late may, transplanted in June), they started producing orange globes of joy. Did not thin them, but they thinned themselves, to about 3 per plant. The smallest one was 3.4lbs, but the rest were all between 8-13lbs each. The pumpkin patch was heavily amended with sheep manure. Will grow again!

Fast growing and always productive Neon pumpkin

I've been growing this variety almost every year now for about 6 years. Once the plants really take off in late June the first yellow pumpkins start to form. You could harvest in late August. At this stage they're a bright yellow-orange. For me only about 15% of the pumpkins reach a 7-8 pound size. Most are 2-4 pound range. I thin to one pumpkin per plant.
I always enjoy growing these. They're foolproof - sort of like zucchini. And I grow them in my front yard and it's a conversation point with neighbors and pedestrians. Good for a children's garden.
About one in 15 seeds is definitely not a Neon variety - these grow green initially and slowly ripen to 3-4 pound smooth orange pumpkins.

Cucurbita spp. This traditional ornament of the autumn harvest is good for much more than jack-o-lanterns and pies. High in fiber and essential minerals, their colorful orange flesh signifies an abundance of the antioxidant beta-carotene.

Days to maturity are calculated from date of direct seeding.

Culture
• Pumpkins require uniform irrigation totaling 15-20 inches of water during the growing season
• Bee attractant flowers or beehives will help yields — misshapen or non-developing fruit is often the result of poor pollination

Direct Sowing
• Plant after frost danger when soil warms to 65°F
• Work in shovelful of compost and 1/2 cup TSC's Complete fertilizer into hill
• Keep soil evenly moist but not wet as too much moisture causes seed to rot
• Bush varieties: sow 3-4 feet apart
• Vining varieties: sow 4-5 feet apart

Transplanting
• Start indoors 3-4 weeks prior to anticipated transplant date in 4 inch pots
• Work in shovelful of compost and 1/2 cup TSC's Complete fertilizer into hill
• Transplant carefully as to not disturb roots

Pests & Diseases
• Common pests: Cucumber beetles and squash bugs, stink bugs
• Pest control: Pyrethrin
• Common diseases: Various wilts, leaf spots mildews, and various viral diseases
• Disease prevention: 3-4 year crop rotation, and fungicide applications

Harvest & Storage
• Leave on vine until fully mature, rinds should be firm
• Pumpkins can tolerate a light frost, but must be protected from a hard frost
• Dry gourds: Wash gently in a solution of 10 parts water and 1 part bleach, carefully removing all dirt, then store in a warm, dry location
• Store at 55-70°F and 70% relative humidity
