Natural Reed Mason Bee Tubes
Mason bees prefer a medium with insulating qualities that wick moisture away from the cocoon, keeping them dry and mold-free. The tubes also help protect cocoons from predatory wasps and mites. We have a wide variety of tube systems to choose from, all measuring 6 inches in length; the ideal depth for mason bees to lay their eggs and perfect for use with our BeeAdventure Kit and Mason Bee Homes.
An all-natural alternative to paper straws or tunnels, these nesting tubes are made from hand-cut dried stems of hollow reeds that grew on a lake bed. At approximately 6 inches long, they're the ideal depth for mason bees to lay their eggs. With a naturally varying diameter (from about 9/32 to 13/32 inches or 7-10 mm) they invite not only mason bees and hornfaced bees, but other native bees as well. These reeds fit all our mason bee homes. In a side-by-side comparison, a spring mason bee preferred reeds to tubes or wood trays, and the varying diameters helped the female locate her chosen nesting tube.
