Grafted Tomato Plant-Legend

Grafted Tomato Plant-Legend

68 days. If late blight has been a problem in your garden, you should try growing Legend. Legend has shown strong tolerance of late blight fungus US8 and US11. So even in the most virulent areas, gardeners have a great chance of harvesting ripe tomatoes. Legend not only demonstrates tolerance of late blight, but is also one of the earliest maturing slicing tomato we know of. Legend produces amazingly sweet tomatoes, with just the right amount of acid flavor. The big 4-5 inch parthenocarpic fruit are glossy red, with a uniform round shape. Please keep in mind that being tolerant of blight is just that: tolerant-not immune. Bred and released by Dr. Jim Baggett at Oregon State University. Determinate.

Available only within the contiguous US.

What is a Grafted Plant?
Grafted vegetables are created when the top part of one plant (the scion) is attached to the root system of a separate plant (the rootstock). The rootstock contributes vigor and disease resistance while the scion is chosen for fruit flavor and quality. Grafting has been used in agriculture for centuries to improve plant health and yield (fruit trees and grape vines are two familiar examples). Grafted vegetables are currently widespread in Asia and Europe among produce growers and are gaining popularity in the US, especially with organic farmers. Our plants are grafted by hand in a unique, carefully controlled environment using innovative methods recently developed here in Oregon.

Grafted vegetables help solve common garden problems. Vigorous rootstock enables more effective uptake of water and nutrients, and increases plants' resistance to pests or disease and tolerance to temperature extremes and drought. This allows commercial growers--and now home gardeners--to plant earlier and harvest longer. Healthier, stronger plants also mean greatly reduced pesticide use and more yield. With grafted tomato plants, even gardeners in challenging climates can enjoy ample harvests of America's favorite garden crop.

Grafted plants are drop-dead gorgeous.
Statuesque, strong, and loaded with flowers and fruit, they remain beautifully healthy and disease-resistant when the same non-grafted varieties oftentimes struggle.

Benefits of Grafted plants over non-grafted plants.
Better quality crops and increased fruit production
Increased water and nutrient uptake
Extended harvests
Increased disease resistance including resistance to early and late blight and blossom end rot in tomatoes
Increased overall plant vigor
Increased tolerance to environmental stresses (extremes in heat and cold, salinity, etc.)

I tried these grafted plants and they were amazing! I produced double the number of tomatoes as I normally grow and at probably 50% larger size. These are well worth trying. I tried both the beaverlodge and the legend performaed significantly better, I don't know why. The legend were larger and I got far more of them and they seemed to ripen more easily. I will buy these again every year.

First year with grafted plants, planted in a raised bed with moderate soil. Production was fabulous and steady, size consistent, flavor good. Definitely planting again next year. Don't expect heirloom flavor, but still quite good.

This is the first time I have purchased grafted plants. They arrived in perfect condition, well packaged to protect the plants. The plants are easily 7 ft tall, full with large thick stems. I have had NO disease & only treated for insects. The tomatoes are ripening and they are delicious, really meaty. I will definitely be back next year! Thanks Territorial Seed for great plants & attention to providing great customer service!

In late March I ordered several varieties of grafted tomatoes. All arrived as scheduled, after our frost date. The plants are in wonderful condition. Just can't wait for harvest. I can't give a perfect score until then, but I expect it to become one in July.
