Hairy Vetch Cover Crop
WW4410
Vicia villosa Hairy Vetch is one of the most versatile of the legumes, and the most tolerant of acid soils and low winter temperatures. Hardy down to 10°F if planted early (typically October) so that it is well established before winter sets in. If planted by itself, it can reach a height of 12–20 inches. Shade tolerant. It can be tilled under in the spring as with other green manures, or you can simply cut or mow to the ground and plant your tomatoes and peppers. Recommended seeding rate: 1–2 pounds per 1000 square feet; 40–60 pounds per acre. Needs to be inoculated.
