Himrod Grape
Vitis labrusca
Grapes grow on deciduous, woody vines that are adaptable to most soil conditions. For best production, choose a site in full sun with good air culation and well-drained, slightly acidic soil with moderate fertility. Allow 6-8 feet between plants. Grapes require a strong permanent support and should be pruned in late winter when the vines are dormant. A general rule of thumb when pruning is to cut vines back to 2 nodes (or buds) from the previous season's growth. Birdblock netting (ZRC752, 753, 754) will protect ripening fruit from plundering birds.
Himrod is a superior quality, self-pollinating, seedless dessert grape. Large, loose clusters of pale emerald, juicy, sweet fruit ripen in mid-September. The versatile grapes are tempting straight off the vine, squeezed for juice, in jam, or dried as raisins. Released in 1952 by the New York Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, New York. Hardy in zones 5-9.
Our grape plants are shipped in mid-March. Order by March 1st for best availability. Complete growing instructions are included with each order. Not available to HI, US Territories, or Canada. Plants are shipped bare root.
