MS472Rumex scutatus 60 days. Tangy lemon flavor for soups and salads. A member of the Buckwheat family and native to Europe, this variety perennial grows to 18 inches and has medium-green, thick, large spinach-like leaves that easily snap off their succulent stems. Our strain is a highly refined selection, bred for low oxalic acid and an intoxicatingly sharp flavor. Sow seed uncovered. Be sure to keep any seed stalks cut.

MS473Eruca vesicaria subsp. sativa 33-40 days. This arugula can be sown from early spring through late fall. Frost-hardy and easy to grow. Long, dark green, broad arrow-shaped leaves form a loose, open bunch. Grows 12-18 inches tall before bolting. Not bitter, this salad green has a jazzy, distinctive flavor.
Winter Growing Information -
MS475Diplotaxis muralis 30-40 days. While this plant may be slightly smaller and slower growing than garden arugula, it makes up for it with its piquant, peppery flavor. Young leaves will wake up your salads while more mature leaves are wonderful when braised. As an added bonus, Sylvetta does not bolt as quickly as garden arugula.

MS476Portulaca oleracea var. sativa 50 days. Very similar to our Garden Purslane in appearance, including its upright habit, height, and shape. Succulent leaves have a golden color and are more tender. An excellent source of natural antioxidants. A cool, soothing flavor, and a favorite for fresh snacking at our trial grounds.
A larger upright domesticated purslane to be enjoyed as a salad ingredient or as a fresh snack. Very high in vitamins and antioxidants. -
MS477Portulaca oleracea var. sativa 50 days. Compared to the wild purslane that many people enjoy in salads, this variety is 4 times the size, much more succulent, and has a very upright growth habit (keeping the leaves clean). It grows 18 inches tall and the juicy tear-shaped leaves are light green. A native of Europe, Garden Purslane is a welcome change of pace for any salad or sandwich. Makes an attractive garnish, too!

MS481Cichorium intybus 85 days. A member of the chicory family, Radicchio is an excellent ingredient to add to a salad mix. Its soft, majestic red leaves and striking white veins are a lively contrast with other garden greens. After extensively testing many Chioggia types, we proudly offer Palla Rossa Special.
Gorgeous dark red leaves and uniform 5-7 inch heads make Palla Rossa Special the best medium-early radicchio we've evaluated. Has that distinctive tangy taste without getting bitter or bolting. Unique, as it can be planted for both summer and fall harvest. A marvelous salad companion, it is an excellent complement in mixed steamed greens, stir-fries, and savory pastries. -
MS484Lepidium sativum 15-30 days. Whether grown as sprouts for sandwiches and salads, or in the garden for summer greens and garnishes, cress adds a distinctive peppery taste to any culinary venue. Also known as peppergrass, the spicy flavor of this cultivated green is a welcome addition to salads or sandwiches and is quick to mature. May be picked when leaves are about 2 inches tall. Just as easy to grow in containers on the windowsill as in the garden. Can also be used for growing sprouts.

MS485Nasturtium officinale 60 days. Whether grown as sprouts for sandwiches and salads, or in the garden for summer greens and garnishes, cress adds a distinctive peppery taste to any culinary venue. A must for gourmet salads and vegetarian dishes. This perennial cress is rich in vitamins and has a delicious, distinctive taste. Excellent with astringent fruits like oranges and grapefruit. Direct seed watercress about 1/4 inch deep, and about 1/2 inch apart. Thin to 4 inches and keep well watered. Grows best in full sunlight in very moist soil with a pH of 7.

MS487Cichorium intybus 65 days. This famous variety is presented here in its most refined form. The leaves are bright green, long and very frilled, but have a desirably less prominent stalk than more common varieties. The plants are erect, 12 inches tall, and form very heavy bunches.
